Asha Parekh reveals Rajesh Khanna was an introvert; says, “He had a little bit of inferiority complex, but once he became a superstar, all that changed”

Asha Parekh recalled working with Rajesh Khanna when she first met him, and she speculated that he might have been experiencing inferiority issue at the time before he became a superstar. At an ABP event in Mumbai, Asha recalled working with the country's first superstar Rajesh Khanna. She said, “Basically he was an introvert, he would not talk much (on sets). He was absolutely (introvert). He would sit in a corner, zyada baat nahi karni aur, shayad jab Baharon Ke Sapne bani thi to wo unki dusri picture thi. I was already a star and main Baharon Ke Sapne karne wali bhi nahi thi. Nanda heroine thi lekin unhone kaha nahi karna kyuki wo glamourous role nahi tha.” She further added, “Then, Nasir Hussain came to me and urged me to work on the film. I asked him to adjust the dates according to my availability and he agreed. And, because of that (dates clash and unavailability), there were several times when the dates (of Baharon ke Sapne) had to be shifted back and forth and a few incidents occurred with Rajesh Khanna. Tabse maine kaha.... He was basically introverted, aur unko shayad inferiority complex bhi tha shayad us waqt. He had a little bit of inferiority complex, but once he became a superstar, all that changed.” Rajesh Khanna was a genuine superstar in Bollywood, and his passing in 2012 created a gap in the Hindi film industry. He came to be known as Kaka. Veteran actress Asha Parekh had a number of commercial hits. The actress had no restrictions when accepting parts, but she was quite particular about what she wore. She stated, “There was no list of dos and don’ts. But yes I was particular about my clothes. If someone would have told me to wear a bikini, I would have said, ‘Nahi mujhe nahi karna kaam.” Also Read: Asha Parekh opens up on ‘Besharam Rang’ controversy: “We are losing our minds”

One of the greatest films of all time, Lagaan (2001), completed 23 years on June 15.
