Zeenat Aman recalls how police had to intervene when thousands of fans surrounded her when she went shopping: “Back then, artists were not seen”

Zeenat Aman, a veteran actress in the Hindi film industry, enjoyed superstardom back in the day. She was part of several hit movies including Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Yaadon Ki Baraat, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, and Don, among many others. She remains one of the most sought-after actors of yesteryear. Having said that, ever since she made her debut on Instagram, fans have been enjoying her posts and all the anecdotes she shares on the platform. In an interview recently, she recalled how actors weren’t readily available back in the day and there was one incident when a huge crowd had gathered due to which police had to be called.

Recalling one such incident, Zeenat Aman revealed that there was an incident once due to which the police had to intervene. While talking to the comedian Zakir Khan in the latest episode of his show Kyun Ki Kyon Nahi, Zeenat said, “Woh ek zamana tha jahan yeh digital media tha hi nahi. Ek waqt main shopping karne gayi thi, khabar mil gayi logon ko. (That wasn’t the era of digital media. Once I went for shopping and people got a whiff about it) Thousands and thousands of people gathered outside the store. At the end, the store owner had to call the police, so that I could get into the van and leave the store.”

She added, “Back then, artists dikhte nahin the. (Back then, artists were not seen) Aaj kal aap har jagah dekho, TV pe hai, kuchh promote kar rahe hai, Instagram pe kahani dikha rahen hai. (These days wherever you see actors are promoting something on TV or showing stories on Instagram). Stars are much more readily available nowadays. Back then they were real stars.”

Zeenat Aman’s contributions to Indian cinema have been recognized with several awards and accolades. She has also been a recipient of Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian awards in India, for her outstanding contribution to the arts.
