EXCLUSIVE: “Akshay Kumar had too many films and is overexposed” says Taran Adarsh; advices actor to space out his releases

With the Hindi cinema failing to hold its ground at the box office, trade has grown concerned towards the future of these films. In a hearty conversation with Bollywood Hungama, trade analyst Taran Adarsh discussed about the current scenario of the industry as he also opened up what worked and what didn’t work in favour of the actors at the box office. One of the heroes he spoke about was Akshay Kumar, who has been facing several hurdles at the box office as his 2022 releases couldn’t make a mark at the box office.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, "Lot of films, overexposure, saal mein 4-5 filmein. Ek waqt tha jab Akshay ke woh filmein chal jaati thi. ab filmein nahi chali. Space out karna bahut zaruri hai... pichle saal 4 filmein lagi thi theatre mein aur ek OTT pe. Aap kitne bhi kaabil actor kyun na ho par roz roz biryani bhi achhi nahi lagti. (In a year, there are 4-5 films. There was a time when all of Akshay’s films would work. Now his films are not working. It is important for him to space out. In the past year, his four films released in theatre and one on OTT. No matter how capable you are as an actor, we cannot eat biryani every day right?).

The trade analyst advised that Akshay Kumar needs to space out the releases. He added, “Thoda space out karein. Ek waqt tha jab hum bahut saare filmein dekhte te. Amitabh Bachchan ki cheh picturein ek saath - sab silver jubilee, golden jubilee, 25-50-75 hafte chalti rehti hai. tab wahi entertainment hota tha. ab logon ke paas OTT, TV, social media hai jo aapko thoroughly entertained rakhta hai. (He should space out. There was a time when we would watch a lot of films. Like six of Amitabh Bachchan films would release in a year and they would run like for 25 to 75 weeks. Because at that time, it was the only source of entertainment. But now, people have OTT, TV, social media etc. to keep them thoroughly entertained).”

However, Taran Adarsh did assert that the actor would soon be back in form. “Akshay Kumar will surely bounce back. He is a competent actor which he has proved in the past with numbers also. It is just a question of one good Friday. But it is very important for him to space out,” he concluded.
