Nikkhil Advani confesses to being jobless for 3 years after Kal Ho Naa Ho; says Nobody wanted to work with me
Readers would be aware that Nikkhil Advani started his career with Karan Johar under the banner Dharma Productions. However, after the multi-starrer Kal Ho Naa Ho, featuring Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan, the filmmaker had a much public fallout with his mentor and childhood friend Karan Johar. While Nikkhil currently has become a solo producer and also directs films, the filmmaker opened up about his journey post the fallout and the challenges he faced to get work in a recent podcast.
In a report shared by Indian Express, Nikkhil Advani recalled his struggles in a podcast called The Streaming Show, in which he said, “Post Kal Ho Naa Ho, I didn’t have work for three years. Nobody wanted to work with me. I left Dharma Productions and it was a very public fallout. And I didn’t have work for three years and when I finally started working again post D-Day, I just wanted to do anything and everything, never be in that position again.”
He also revealed that the two of them started talking to each other after the sad demise of Yash Johar, Karan Johar’s father. “We both had egos that time in 2004. After I directed Kal Ho Naa Ho, the relation between assistant director and director became that of two directors who both made superhit films. We have never sat down and asked each other what went wrong, but when Yash uncle passed away, we started talking to each other again," he added.
Nikkhil Advani later went on to kick start his own production house, Emmay Entertainment which he co-owns with his sister Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani, and they recently produced the critically acclaimed Rani Mukerji film Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway.
