Vedang Raina initially auditioned for Archie Andrews’ role in The Archies before landing Reggie Mantle: “I was a bit upset that I was going to be this bad guy on screen”

The year 2023 marked the debut of Vedang Raina in Zoya Akhtar’s film, The Archies, where he shared the screen with other notable star kids like Khushi Kapoor, Suhana Khan, and Agastya Nanda. However, what many may not know is that Raina's journey into the film wasn't initially as the character of Reggie Mantle that he ended up portraying. He had auditioned for the role of Archie Andrews as he himself is a musician and was sort of upset when he did not land that role.

In a recent interview with Teen Vogue, the actor opened up about his audition process, revealing that he initially vied for the role of Archie, ultimately played by Agastya Nanda. Raina confessed, “I was very invested in Archie’s character because he’s a musician just like me. I was a bit upset that I was going to be this bad guy on screen.”

However, fate had a different plan for Raina as he was cast in the role of Reggie. Initially apprehensive about playing the character, Raina soon discovered the depth and complexity within the character. “I heard the brief of the character and I realized that there’s a lot more depth to Reggie,” he added.

Soon after the release, Raina became a breakout star for his portrayal of Reggie Mantle and immediately was a sensation on social media. After that, the newbie signed Jigra starring alongside Alia Bhatt. Directed by Vasan Bala and co-produced by Eternal Sunshine Productions and Dharma Productions, the film will release in September 2024.
