Pratibha Rantta recalls auditioning in front of Aamir Khan for Laapataa Ladies; also talks about balancing roles in Laapataa Ladies and Heeramandi

Pratibha Rantta recently shared insights into her experience of auditioning for the Aamir Khan-backed Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, and juggling it with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The year has been significant for Rantta, with her performances in both projects bringing her into the spotlight and receiving widespread acclaim.

In an interview with the Indian Express, Rantta discussed how she secured her role in Laapataa Ladies within a month after her live audition with Aamir Khan. “I think within a month, everything was locked. And I was like, ‘Okay, what has just happened? Okay, please tell me.’ It was very quick. For me, it was a very quick process. Then, after that, our dialogue training workshop took place. That took a month. After that, we went on floors. Then we shot for like 45 days. Yeah, we shot for 45-50 days. That’s how it happened,” she recounted. She also reflected on Khan's involvement during filming, describing the set's atmosphere as 'magical' and noting her close friendships formed during the shoot.

Balancing between Laapataa Ladies and Heeramandi, Rantta experienced different worlds and described it as a ‘magical experience.’ She explained, “There was a big set in Heeramandi, and the approach of both characters was so different for me.” Despite the contrasts, she found common ground in the underlying emotions of her characters in both projects.

Drawing a contrast between her roles, Rantta elaborated on her character preparation, highlighting the similarities in their core motivations. “Jaya is a little reserved. She thinks a lot before taking action. But she is watching. She has four eyes because she is doing something like this. So, all that I used to keep in mind when I was preparing for Jaya’s character. But somewhere, in both, the bottom line, it was the same emotion to get that freedom that I have to do what I have to do,” she added. This dual experience has undoubtedly shaped Rantta’s growing career in Bollywood, showcasing her versatility and dedication.
