Celina Jaitly on sexual abuse of kindergarten children in Badlapur, “Only public executions of the perpetrators will set an example”

Celina Jaitly, a vocal advocate of women’s and children’s safety, is aghast at the abuse of two little girls in Badlapur. “The Legislation alone will not bring sufficient impact unless awareness and public attitudes are changed,” she said. “Unless there is a rapid change in our judicial system and a quick redress system in place, the perpetrators would have no fear of the law and will continue their shameful acts without remorse. Given how much crimes of sexual violence have increased in general, only public executions of the perpetrators of these heinous crimes will set an example.”

Celina is alarmed at the rising numbers of child abuse in our country. “Children are the greatest gift to humanity and their abuse is one of the most heinous crimes. While the growing atrocities against women continue to shatter my heart, child sexual abuse has become an epidemic in our country. To even think of two babies at the age of 4 being subjected to the never-ending lust of the Indian male has made me shiver with revulsion and sickness to the bone. The loopholes and underlying problems of the criminal justice system in dealing with child sexual abuse cases is leading to a horrific increase in these cases,” she said.

Celina continued, “For example laws have no provisions for repeat offenders. Also, the age of Child varies in every law. While the Enactment of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 by the India’s Parliament is a welcome initiative, it will only make a difference if it is implemented properly. Child abuse is horrific, terrifying, shocking, cruel and a brutal crime… Education is the important key. The families and the community must be educated, informed and empowered. Public awareness about child abuse and neglect has to be raised and societal attitudes have to change.”

Rickman’s advice, which he gave during an old interview, resonated with Chopra, prompting her to post it on her Instagram Stories. In the shared video, Rickman advises aspiring actors to "forget about acting" and instead focus on broadening their horizons and nurturing their imagination. He said, "Go to art galleries, listen to music, know what's happening on the news in the world and form opinions.
