Shah Rukh Khan trained Aryan Khan in Taekwondo, wanted him to grow up to be like Jackie Chan; recalls his meeting with the megastar: “He promised to open a Chinese restaurant in partnership”

Shah Rukh Khan recently received the prestigious Pardo Alla Carriera award at the Locarno Film Festival 2024. While there, he sat down for a candid interview, discussing not only his illustrious career but also his life as a father and his love for martial arts legend Jackie Chan. Despite his immense stardom, Khan emphasizes his dedication to family and a simple life.  He instills these same values in his children, Aryan Khan, Suhana Khan, and Abram Khan.

During the interview, Khan's admiration for Jackie Chan became readily apparent. “If I have to count my favourite actors of all time – Michael J Fox, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro – Jackie Chan will be right up there,” he declared.  “I love him. He is physically amazing. He enacts things very well and he continues to inspire me.”

Khan revealed a hilarious anecdote about his firstborn son, Aryan. “When my first son, Aryan, was born, I felt he looked like Jackie Chan," Khan confessed. “He looked very Jackie Chan-ish to me. I trained him in Taekwondo assuming he'll grow up to be Jackie Chan. I really wanted him to be that. A few years later, Jackie Chan signed a cap for Aryan.”

Khan's encounter with Jackie Chan himself solidified his respect for the action star. “Many years later, like 3-4 years ago, I had the privilege of meeting him in Saudi Arabia,” Khan said. “He was as sweet and humble as I had expected him to be.” Adding a touch of his signature wit, Khan chuckled, “If he (Jackie Chan) ever sees this interview, he promised to open a Chinese restaurant in partnership and he hasn't done so.”

On the professional front, he's gearing up for the release of Sujoy Roy's King which will also feature his daughter Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan. Aryan Khan is also set to make his directorial debut with series titled Stardom. Reportedly, the show will feature Bobby Deol, Mona Singh, and even a cameo by Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh among a few others.
