Satya re-release premiere: Chakravarthy reveals why Ram Gopal Varma gave writing credit to Anurag Kashyap and Saurabh Shukla: "He told me, 'If some underworld fellow calls me, I can always say ki main toh Hyderabad se aaya hoon, Anurag and Saurabh ne film likhi hai'"

PVR INOX, Versova Homage Screening and Radio Nasha organized the screening of Satya (1998) on January 15, two days before its re-release in cinemas across the country. The event was memorable as it was graced by the film’s team – director Ram Gopal Varma, presenters Bharat Shah and Vinay Chowksey, music director Vishal Bhardwaj, writer Anurag Kashyap and actors Urmila Matondkar, Manoj Bajpayee, J D Chakravarthy, Aditya Srivastava and Makrand Deshpande. The team of the film went down memory lane like never before. Chakravarthy made a late entry, but he made up for it with his trivia stories.

J D Chakravarthy revealed, “There was a scene where Bhiku Mhatre is torturing a guy. Anurag, Saurabh Shukla and I were present on the sets. Anurag wrote one fantastic monologue. We actors assume that jitni zyada line hai, utni zyada hamari acting capability dikhegi! I was happy when Anurag gave me the lines.”

At this point, Anurag Kashyap made some funny remark and Chakaravarthy told him, “Tu beech mein mat bol!”

J D Chakravarthy continued, “Ramu sir walked in. I told him, ‘Just listen to what he wrote’. He heard and got excited. He asked for the sheet on which the dialogue was written. He called it ‘fantastic’ and then started to tear the page! We were baffled. Ramu sir’s logic was, ‘If someone wants to kill, woh uske ghar pe jaa ke usko kyun bolega’.”

J D Chakravarthy then brought the house down as he said, “Let me tell Anurag a secret. One day, I asked Ramu sir, ‘You are contributing so much to the writing. Why are you giving credit to Anurag and Saurabh?’ You know what he answered? He told me, ‘Who knows after this film, if some underworld fellow calls me, I can always say ki main toh Hyderabad se aaya hoon, Anurag aur Saurabh ne film likhi hai’!”

One of the greatest films of all time, Lagaan (2001), completed 23 years on June 15. Starring Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh, it was a fictional period drama about a group of villagers learning cricket, a game alien to them, and playing it against the British. In the pre-climax, when the villagers fear defeat, they collectively pray to God. This is when 'O Paalanhaare' is played and it leaves viewers teary-eyed. The song took a life of its own and is one of the most loved film devotional songs of all time. Many are surprised to know that Javed Akhtar, an atheist, penned this track.
