EXCLUSIVE: Manish Shah of Goldmines Telefilms BREAKS silence on why he didn’t back Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 – The Rule: “I can’t take a decision that would make me lose money”

Manish Shah of Goldmines Telefilms is not just another industry player. He’s the game-changer who pioneered the dubbed film market, helping several South Indian filmmakers strike gold in the Hindi-speaking belt. But in 2021, he decided to level up. After years of focusing on digital and satellite releases, he took a theatrical gamble with Pushpa: The Rise – Part 01 (2021). The risk paid off as the film not only shattered records but also turned Allu Arjun into a true-blue Pan-India superstar. Hence, it was a shock when the industry, trade and fans learned that Manish Shah would not be a part of Pushpa 2 – The Rule (2024).

As per a November 2024 report, “Mythri Movie Makers asked Manish Shah for a share in the revenues of theatrical and digital and TV rights of Pushpa: The Rise – Part 01. However, the Goldmines owner declined the request as legally, he was not bound to do so. The team at Mythri tried to convince him but Manish Shah remarked that it was thanks to his efforts and quality dubbing efforts that the Hindi version became so huge. Hence, he was justified in keeping his share to himself.” The source added that due to this reason, the partnership was terminated.

Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to him about it last month. He revealed the reason for his non-association, “We could not agree on the price. At the end of the day, we are here to do business. I need to protect my top line and bottom line. I can’t take a decision that would make me lose money.”

Does he regret losing out on Pushpa 2 – The Rule, which became the greatest blockbuster in the history of Indian cinema? He replied, “No. The business has to be done from the mind and not from the heart (smiles). That’s the reason why we are successful.”

Pushpa: The Rise – Part 01 tells the story of a labourer working for the red sandalwood smuggling mafia. Slowly, he rises up the ranks and ends up controlling the syndicate. The first part ends with the smuggler’s arch-nemesis swearing revenge. The sequel takes the story forward from where Part 1 ended. It stars Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil in lead roles.
