Trade experts are confident that Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava will cross the Rs. 500 crore mark: "The videos of people going crazy in cinemas while watching the film and also the climax has struck a chord"
The Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava opened with a bang and has continued to hold very strongly. We asked trade experts and all of them unanimously agreed that the film now has a chance to cross the Rs. 500 crore mark.
Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “Earlier, we were hoping that it would hopefully collect Rs. 300 crores. But now, a lifetime of Rs. 500 crore is very much possible. Also, there’s no major release until Eid. The Ramzan period will not affect it in any way. It has now become a wave. Earlier, it was just Maharashtra and Delhi-NCR which were bringing the numbers. Now, Punjab, West Bengal, Rajasthan etc have picked up very well too.”
Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, confirms this aspect, “Chhaava is now ‘waah-waah’! The kind of enquiries we are getting indicates that the film has really picked up. It has broken out now. Earlier, it was doing fabulous only in Maharashtra. Now, word of mouth has translated across India. The videos of people going crazy in cinemas while watching the film and also the climax have struck a chord. The last 30 minutes have connected with the audience really well and it has taken the film to the next level. Hence, I feel that a lifetime of Rs. 500 crore is definitely on. I’ll be shocked if it doesn’t happen.”
He also added, “The second Saturday of the film in my theatre is much better than the first Saturday by a huge margin. Hence, I am not surprised that the second weekend is bigger than the first weekend. This success was much needed.”
Trade analyst Atul Mohan explained, “If you look at the trending, it’s similar to that of Pushpa 2. Even that film collected Rs. 20 crore plus for almost 10 days. The controversies will only add to the curiosity. Hence, it can easily do more than Rs. 500 crores. It also has a clean run until March end.”
Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, agreed, “The film is tracking quite well. It did dip a bit in the weekdays but the way it has maintained itself from the start is commendable. Maharashtra region, especially, is doing very well. The response from this region boosted other metros, which were not doing that great initially.”
He also reminded, “Internationally, too, the film grossed more than $5 million. It’s a great number in today’s times and especially with the kind of film that it is.”
