Dia Mirza refutes Telangana CM’s allegations of using AI-Generated content in protest videos: “This is an absolutely false statement”

Bollywood actress and environmental activist Dia Mirza has strongly denied claims made by Telangana's Chief Minister regarding her involvement in circulating fake, AI-generated videos related to the recent protests over the proposed auction of 400 acres of forest land in Gachibowli, Hyderabad.

The controversy erupted after the Chief Minister posted a tweet on April 6, 2025, addressing the situation at Kancha Gachibowli. In his message, he alleged that Mirza had shared AI-generated images and videos to support student protests aimed at preserving the biodiversity of the contested land.

Responding to these allegations, Dia took to Twitter, stated, “The CM of Telangana posted a tweet yesterday. He made certain claims about the situation at Kancha Gachibowl.” She added, “One of them was that I had used FAKE AI generated images/videos in support of the protest by students to protect biodiversity on the 400 acres of land the government wanted to auction. This is an absolutely false statement. I have not posted a single image or video that is AI generated. The media and the Telangana government should verify their facts before making such claims.”

Students at the University of Hyderabad are staging protests against the Telangana government's proposal to develop a 400-acre land parcel adjacent to the campus. The government plans to auction this ecologically sensitive area for urban infrastructure and an IT Park, prompting strong opposition from the UoH Students’ Union. The issue is currently under review in both the Telangana High Court and the Supreme Court.

Since the news broke, several celebrities have spoken out against the tree felling in the area, expressing their concern and disappointment over the environmental impact of the proposed development.

According to The Times of India, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Saturday directed officials to file a court appeal on behalf of the state government, seeking an investigation into AI-generated content that falsely depicted peacocks and deer in the Kancha Gachibowli land area, misleading the public. He held a review meeting on the issue and related court cases with Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and D Anasuya (Seethakka), Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari, DGP Jitender, and others.

Officials informed the CM that several celebrities were misled by AI-generated videos and responded on social media, pushing the matter into national focus. In response, Revanth Reddy instructed officials to strengthen the state’s cyber crime department.
