Sunny Deol on Fawad khan’s return to Bollywood, “We are actors, we work for everyone all over the world”

In a conversation with HT city, actor Sunny Deol talked about Pakistani artist Fawad Khan’s comeback in Bollywood with Abir Gulaal. Sunny mentioned that he has no objection to Pakistani actors working in India.

Sunny, who is known for his angry action hero persona, was asked if he supports Fawad Khan’s return to Bollywood, which caught attention again after the teaser of his film Abir Gulaal came out. Abir Gulaal is set to release on May 9.

“See, I wouldn’t like to go on to the political side because that’s where things start getting messy. We are actors; we work for everyone all over the world. Even if somebody is watching or not, we are for everyone. So, aisi koi baat nahin hain (nothing like that). The more the way the world has become, we should stay global and let there be more countries; that’s the way it should be”, said Sunny Deol.

Back in 2016, an unofficial ban was placed on Pakistani artists working in Indian films due to political tensions. However, in 2023, the Bombay High Court rejected a petition seeking to officially prohibit Pakistani artists from working in India. Sunny Deol’s comment follows the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), led by Raj Thackeray, announcing on April 2 that it would oppose the release of Abir Gulaal, which stars Fawad Khan.

The film, directed by Aarti S Bagdi, is produced by Indian Stories, A Richer Lens, and Aarjay Pictures. Fawad Khan stars opposite Vaani Kapoor in the movie.

Fawad Khan began his film career with a supporting role in the social drama Khuda Kay Liye (2007), which became one of Pakistan’s biggest hits. He made his Bollywood debut in Khoobsurat (2014) with Sonam Kapoor. In 2016, he played Rahul Kapoor in Shakun Batra’s Kapoor & Sons, and also made a cameo in Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in the same year.

Meanwhile, Sunny Deol’s action film Jaat, which released today, has been creating buzz since its announcement. The film marks Sunny Deol’s first collaboration with South Indian filmmaker Gopichand Malineni, and early reviews suggest it could perform well at the box office.
