Actress Shirin Sewani, known for her performances in shows like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Naagin 2, and web series including Taj Mahal 1989 and Dev DD, is embracing a new chapter in life—motherhood. On the occasion of Mother’s Day, the actress reflects on her own childhood and the deep connection she shares with her mother, while also candidly admitting that her mischievous younger self has left her wondering how she’ll manage as a mom.
“I was so naughty that now I wonder how I’ll handle my son if he turns out like me. Being the only child, I was showered with love. But my mischief often got me in trouble," Shirin laughs, recalling her formative years in Delhi. Born and brought up in the capital, Shirin was the only child to her parents—her father owns a restaurant business, while her mother, a teacher by profession, chose to begin her career only after Shirin started college. Until then, she dedicated her time fully to raising her daughter, something Shirin deeply values today.
Among the many childhood stories Shirin fondly remembers, one in particular stand out. “We didn’t have mobile phones back then. I used our landline to call my friend, kept the phone in my bag, locked my parents inside the house, and left,” she shared. What she thought would be a fun escapade turned into a serious moment when she returned to her worried parents. “I didn’t realize how serious the situation could have been. I was just being impulsive,” she adds, reflecting on the recklessness of youth.
Now that she is a mother to a baby boy, Shirin is experiencing life from the other side. “Even during pregnancy, I was very active. I continued making videos and stayed connected to my audience,” she says. Despite the challenges of new motherhood, Shirin has managed to stay creatively involved, steadily growing her presence as a content creator.
While she is beginning to return to acting, Shirin is currently selective about her projects. “I’m avoiding daily soaps for now to focus on my young son,” she shares.
Her story, this Mother’s Day, is not just one of love and mischief, but of transitions - between generations, between roles, and between the ever-changing stages of life that define both mother and child.
