Trade experts give thumbs-up to Housefull 5 trailer, its murder-comedy angle and presence of 19 actors: "This is a film that will excite all kinds of audience, from masses to classes"

The trailer of the much-awaited film Housefull 5 has finally been released and it has enhanced the buzz for the film. The trade and exhibitors have also given it a thumbs up.

Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, said, “I loved the trailer. After Donkey’s years, a film like this is coming which is targeting viewers across the spectrum. This is a film that will excite all kinds of audiences, from masses to classes.”

Trade analyst Atul Mohan agreed, “It is what one expects from a Sajid Nadiadwala film like grandeur, vibrancy, humour, mass appeal etc. This time, there’s also a big assembly of stars. Moreover, all the previous four parts have worked big time.”

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh explained, “I genuinely believe that never judge a comedy trailer on the basis of its trailer. Uske aage aur peeche kya hone waala hai, no one knows. This happens for a majority of the trailers but with comic capers, the makers only show a glimpse. The audience will eventually laugh when they see the context. Nevertheless, the signals are very clear through the trailer that it’s going to be a madcap entertainer. The novelty is that it’s shot on a cruise. Moreover, it’s not a usual comedy. There’s a murder angle as well this time.”

Presence of 19 stars – boon or bane?

Taran Adarsh also said that the fact that it’s a multi-starrer, featuring 19 prominent actors, will also go in its favour. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Abhishek A Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, Chitrangada Singh, Fardeen Khan, Chunky Pandey, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Dino Morea, Ranjeet, Soundarya Sharma, Nikitin Dheer and Akashdeep Sabir.

Taran Adarsh stated, “We used to make multi-starrers before. I used to wonder why we stopped making them. This is a true-blue multi starrer. To see so many stars coming together in one frame would be a joy. Knowing Sajid Nadiadwala, I am sure he must have left no stone unturned to make it a complete entertainer.”

Vishek Chauhan, in agreement, said, “It is such a spectacle to watch all these great, commercial actors together. Moreover, it has fantastic well-mounted songs. Even ‘Papa Toh Band Bajaye’ has been recreated.”

Taran Adarsh agreed that the music has also been a USP, “The one song that has really caught on is ‘Laal Pari’. That should enhance the value of the film. When I go on Instagram, I realize that it's extremely popular on Reels. And it’s the aam junta making Reels on that song. It’s a feat; you can’t force them to do so.”

Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal said, “It has a huge assembly of stars and hence, it should do well.”

A section of the industry and moviegoers have reservations over so many faces. An exhibitor, on condition of anonymity, remarked, “Whenever a film has so many stars, it casts a doubt in my mind. How will they do justice to all of them, in less than 3 hours?”

Vishek Chauhan, on this, said, “I think it’s a great idea to have such relatable faces across the board. It works in favour of the film. This is not a film for the Oscars. It is not made for long-standing ovation at Cannes. The purpose of this film is to give a rollicking time in the movie theatre. They want that audience theatre mein aake maze karein. Aur maze karne ke liye the more the merrier! When you have Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff together, it adds to the fun. This casting and all other aspects have been smartly added to make the gags work. There’s a shot of two monkeys fighting with Akshay Kumar. When was the last time you saw this in a Hindi movie? Such scenes will attract a large audience to cinemas.”

Atul Mohan explained, “Even the earlier parts had so many actors. And you have to grow. You can’t downgrade your franchise.”
