Aditi Rao Hydari reveals she has not signed anything despite Heeramandi’s success: “I am still waiting”

Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari received widespread acclaim for her role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama series Heeramandi, which featured actors like Manisha Koirala and Sonakshi Sinha. Despite the show’s success, Aditi shared that she is yet to secure a new film or series. In a recent conversation with Lilly Singh, she pointed out the ongoing difficulties women encounter in the entertainment industry. She mentioned that although her performance was highly praised, this recognition hasn’t yet led to fresh job offers.

Aditi Rao Hydari discussed the success of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi. Lilly noted that when women-cantered stories do well, they are often seen as exceptions rather than the norm. Aditi agreed wholeheartedly, saying, “It is, yes. You are absolutely correct.” She also highlighted that despite the show’s success, she has yet to sign a new film or project. She explained, “For example, after Heeramandi, it was wonderful. I got so much love, so much appreciation. So much everything. Have I signed my next show/film? No. I haven’t. I’m still waiting. I got a lot from it. But yeah, I am still waiting.”

When Lilly asked Aditi whether it would be easier to produce shows like Heeramandi again with a similar budget now that it’s been successful, Aditi responded candidly, “No, I don’t think so. I hope so. I hope there will be a change.” She expressed her hope that storytelling will be valued for its power, regardless of whether it focuses on women or not. Aditi emphasized that since women are equal participants in life, they deserve equal representation both in stories and on screen.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, created and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, stars a talented ensemble cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal, and Taha Shah Badussha. The series premiered on Netflix on May 1, 2024.

Meanwhile, Aditi Rao Hydari’s upcoming projects include Imtiaz Ali’s series ‘O Saathi Re,’ where she stars opposite Avinash Tiwary. She is also working on the family entertainer ‘Parivarik ManuRanjan,’ which features Pankaj Tripathi in a key role.
