Karan Johar recalls fond memories of father Yash Johar in heartfelt Father’s Day post; says his twins “filled a deep void”

On the occasion of Father’s Day, filmmaker Karan Johar took to social media to share two deeply personal messages - one remembering his late father, Yash Johar, and another celebrating his own journey as a single parent to twins Yash and Roohi.

In the first post, Karan shared a throwback photo with his father, the legendary producer Yash Johar, founder of Dharma Productions. His caption was a moving tribute to the man who not only shaped his cinematic sensibilities but also instilled in him the values of emotional depth and storytelling.

“He made films with soul & for the soul...and he lived life with even more. He taught me that good storytelling begins with you...and your good heart,” Karan wrote.  “Thank you for giving me the courage to feel deeply. Thank you for giving me the courage to show these feelings on the biggest screens possible. Happy father’s day papa, thank you...for you.”

Karan’s second post turned the lens inward, reflecting on his own experience as a father. Accompanied by a photo of himself with his twins, Yash and Roohi, the post was a candid note on the emotional rewards and complexities of being a single parent.

“Some decisions are impulsive, some decisions are strategised and some are just blessed…. My decision to be a single parent has been the single most emotionally satisfying decision I could have ever made… the answer to my every prayer to the universe,” Karan shared.

He further acknowledged the well-meaning advice he received during the early days of parenthood, but spoke about the importance of personal instinct. “There are no rules for parenting there are just instincts that guide me every day… I know I will falter, fumble and fall…. But the abundant love always makes me eventually rise.”

KJo further acknowledged the emotional void his children have helped him heal, calling their presence in his life “a blessing” and a reason to celebrate himself as a parent. “They filled a deep void and created some more space for love in my aura and heart.”
