EXCLUSIVE: Abhishek Bachchan opens up on the quiet power of Kaalidhar Laapata; says, “It’s not about speed, it’s about soul”

In a landscape filled with loud, high-energy releases, Kaalidhar Laapata on ZEE5 is quietly finding its place among audiences. Abhishek Bachchan’s latest film has been steadily gaining appreciation for its emotional depth and understated storytelling. He plays Kaalidhar—a man struggling with memory loss who begins to reconnect with life through unlikely friendships.

Rather than relying on spectacle, the film offers a gentle, reflective narrative that resonates with viewers. In an era where audiences are increasingly drawn to grounded and heartfelt stories, Kaalidhar Laapata seems to strike the right chord. As Abhishek Bachchan himself notes, it’s sometimes the simplicity and emotional strength of a story that keeps you most engaged.

In today’s fast-scrolling world, where content constantly fights for attention, can a film that unfolds gradually still keep viewers engaged? Abhishek Bachchan believes it can. Reflecting on the changing nature of film consumption, he shared, “One of my favorite films growing up was Field of Dreams. The idea was simple, ‘If you feel it, it will come to you.’ I believe the same applies to cinema. If you make a good film, the audience will come and stay. People scroll endlessly because nothing hooks them. But the moment something truly engages, they stop, watch, and even revisit it. That’s what a strong story does it holds you. Even if the pace is leisurely, a compelling story keeps viewers fully invested.”

When asked if producers today support this kind of storytelling, or still lean towards faster narratives, Abhishek added, “Our producers stood by us completely. They gave the director and us, as actors, full creative freedom—and that trust shows on screen. More filmmakers are now embracing this space, making layered, thought-provoking cinema. Take ZEE5, for instance. Their recent film Mrs. was a deeply moving watch. Platforms like these aren’t just backing content, they’re believing in stories that truly matter. And that belief gives creators the confidence to take meaningful risks.”
