EXCLUSIVE: Shekhar Suman reveals that his film with Parineeti Chopra, Adil Hussain, Amol Palekar titled Reporting Live; Shekhar also states, “If Utsav is remade, Adhyayan should be cast for my role”

Shekhar Suman recently spoke to Bollywood Hungama exclusively on his play Ek Mulaqat, in which he played the role of Sahir Ludhianvi. Last year, he left a mark in a small but memorable role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus web series, Heeramandi. There were talks that Season 2 of Heeramandi is in the offing.

When asked if there are any talks of Heeramandi 2 and what we can expect from him, Shekhar Suman replied, “No. But I have been busy. I am doing Prakash Jha’s film, Janadesh, which I have just signed. I am doing a very interesting film, which I just finished shooting for. Its titled Reporting Live and it’s based on the sand mafia. It also stars Parineeti Chopra, Adil Hussain and Amol Palekar.”

Shekhar Suman continued, “Moreover, I have finished a web series named Pyramid. I had done another show called AK-47 which might be releasing now. It is about the criminalization of politics in Bihar during the 90s.”

And that’s not all. Shekhar Suman revealed, “I have also worked on a song based on Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s poetry. I’ll drop it within a month. It’ll surely surprise a lot of people. People saw him as a politician. The new generation doesn’t completely know about him. But what a great poet and literate he was. People don’t know that side of Atal ji as it got completely overshadowed by the politician and statesman in him. I am rediscovering him and I am going to represent him in a big way.”

It’s the season of remakes. When asked if any of his film deserves to be remade, Shekhar Suman replied, “Anubhav (1986) is one film that I think can be remade. There’s also a very beautiful film, Tere Bina Kya Jeena (1989). It was directed by Partho Ghosh, who recently passed away. That is a film that the makers had thought of remaking. And yes, Utsav (1984) should be remade and they should cast Adhyayan as Charudutt.”

Who should play the role of Rekha? Shekhar Suman smiled and answered, “I think Rekha herself as she hasn’t aged. On a serious note, there are plenty of beautiful actresses who can play her part.”

Shekhar Suman signed off by coming back to Ek Mulaqat. He advised readers, “People should discover poets, shayars etc. who have contributed immensely to society. As Sahir says, 'Duniya ne tazarbaat o havadis ki shakal mein jo kuch mujhe diya hai, woh lauta raha hoon'. People should understand all of this. Who other than Sahir would sum up the entire life in just a song, ‘Main zindagi ka saath nibha tha chala gaya, har fikr ko dhuein mein udata chal gaya; jo mil gaya, usski ko muqaddar samaj liya, jo kho gaya, main usko bhulata chala gaya’. That’s our life. Once you have understood Sahir, you have understood life. It also makes you understand how to have your own sense of individuality and not just be a bootlicker or somebody who just flows with the tide. Have your stance; have your own philosophy and ideology and know how to fight despite all oddities in this world.”
