Karan Johar celebrates 27 years of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai with RARE BTS moments featuring father Yash Johar: “It means everything to me”

It’s been 27 years since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai first hit the big screens, and the film continues to hold a special place in the hearts of moviegoers. To mark the occasion, filmmaker Karan Johar took to social media on October 16, 2025, and shared a series of rare behind-the-scenes photos from the sets of his directorial debut.

The post featured candid glimpses of Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji, along with moments from the film’s shoot that also included Karan’s late father, Yash Johar. Sharing the photos, Karan wrote, “27 years!!! Some beautiful and candid memories from our set of #KuchKuchHotaHai…a set filled with love, too much banter and happiness / Thank you to everyone for the love you continue to give this film…it means everything to me! @dharmamovies”

Released in 1998, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai not only became a cultural phenomenon but also cemented Karan’s position as one of Bollywood’s most successful storytellers.

Over the years, Karan has often spoken about the emotional journey behind the making of his debut film. Earlier this year, in a conversation with Lily Singh, he revealed that Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was more than just a launchpad — it was his way of reviving his father’s faith in cinema. “I just wanted to make a very big hit. I was 24 years old when I wrote Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and as a producer’s son, I grew up understanding box office business and how our country has a varied audience. I wanted to do this not for material reason but for prestige reason and my father to get his morale back,” he had shared.

On the professional front, Karan is now gearing up to host JioHotstar’s upcoming reality series Pitch To Get Rich. His recent production ventures, Homebound and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumar, were also released in theatres.
