Vidyut Jammwal's diet surprises street fighter co-star Andrew Schulz: "He doesn't believe in protein"
Action star Vidyut Jammwal, who is set to make his Hollywood debut with the live-action reboot of Street Fighter, recently left his co-star, actor and comedian Andrew Schulz, surprised with his unusual dietary beliefs. Vidyut will play Dhalsim, the only Indian character in the Street Fighter universe, and has been in the US for test shoots and filming over the past few months.
Andrew Schulz recalls meeting Vidyut Jammwal
Andrew Schulz, who also stars in the film, shared a funny story about his first meeting with Vidyut during an episode of his Brilliant Idiots podcast with Aakash Singh. He admitted that he initially mistook Vidyut’s regular outfit for a costume. “Martial arts started in India — it’s called Kalaripayattu, or something like that. Vidyut is an action star, and when he arrived on set, we were all in funny costumes. I thought he was in costume too and started teasing him about it,” Andrew recalled. “Then the producers told me that’s how he dresses normally. I thought they were joking. This went on for about 10 minutes — I just kept putting my foot in my mouth.”
‘He doesn’t believe in protein’
Andrew went on to reveal that Vidyut’s eating habits also took him by surprise. “He plays Dhalsim, and he said he doesn’t believe in protein. Yeah, he said protein is a myth. This guy is hilarious,” Andrew said. When Aakash asked if that meant Vidyut was vegetarian, Andrew laughed and said he had “no follow-up question.” Another guest on the podcast added, while looking at Vidyut’s picture, “If I could look like that without eating protein, that’s insane.”
Vidyut Jammwal has been a vegetarian for more than a decade and has often spoken about his plant-based diet. He relies on natural sources of nutrition and has previously shared that his strength and fitness come from discipline and mindful eating, not supplements.
