Trade on Akshaye Khanna missing Drishyam The Conclusion and Jaideep Ahlawat stepping in: “If Akshaye had been in this film, people would have given him 50% of the credit for its blockbuster success!”

Drishyam The Conclusion had been in the news even before it went on floors, especially after Akshaye Khanna walked out of the film at the last minute. Jaideep Ahlawat then stepped in, giving the makers much-needed relief. The actor has done a fantastic job, with many even remarking that it has now turned out to be Akshaye’s loss that he let go of such a well-etched character.

Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, said, “That’s how he is. That’s what makes Akshaye Khanna, Akshaye Khanna! That’s why we are crazy about him. He’s moody and temperamental. This keeps happening over and over again. Baazigar was offered to Akshay Kumar and Armaan Kohli, and they both rejected it. There are many such instances. So, let’s judge him by what he does, not by what he missed out on.”

He added, “He’s a fantastic actor and so is Jaideep Ahlawat. It’s time Jaideep got commercial credit rather than being considered just a fine actor. The aura and charm he brings to the screen is something I haven’t seen since Irrfan Khan. He has the same raw energy and earthiness that Irrfan had. Hence, Jaideep should be applauded and encouraged. More such big films should come his way. I look forward to seeing him in Shah Rukh Khan’s King. He deserves such biggies, and Drishyam has set the tone.”

He continued, “So, yes, it is Akshaye’s loss, but at the same time, another actor has gained from it. If Jaideep goes on to do more commercial films and establishes himself in that space, it can change the commercial landscape.”

Trade analyst Atul Mohan said, “It’s all destiny. There have been many such examples in the past. Darr was supposed to be done by Aamir Khan but ultimately, Shah Rukh Khan did it. SRK, meanwhile, couldn’t do Munna Bhai MBBS and Sanjay Dutt stepped in. I guess the role chooses you. You can’t choose the role. Jaideep was destined to work in the film. At the end of the day, it was the writing and treatment that made the film a success. The actors were part of the journey, but the path was very well created by Abhishek Pathak.”

Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal opined, “The director was confident about the script and the character. So, he decided to go ahead without Akshaye Khanna and cast Jaideep Ahlawat instead. And the director proved his point. If Akshaye Khanna had been in this film, people would have given him 50% of the credit for its blockbuster success!”
